Jars Cannabis has officially opened its 15th retail outlet in southeast Michigan, bringing in what Mount Clemens city officials say is another economic driver and form of entertainment to the capital of Macomb County.

The recreational and medical dispensary on Groesbeck Highway near Cass Avenue held its ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday to mark its grand opening, which was attended by customers, members of the Macomb County Chamber of Commerce, and Mount Clemens leaders.

Mayor Laura Kropp said the opening of Jars demonstrates another chapter the city’s ongoing economic revitalization. The center was constructed on the property that housed Kraatz Flowers for decades.

“This is going to be another economic driver in our town, it’s a source of revenue that Mount Clemens desperately needs, and it lends itself to what we are trying to create in Mount Clemens,” Kropp said in a statement. “And that is, for Mount Clemens to be the ‘downtown’ of Macomb County. That is the food scene, the entertainment scene, and the cultural scene — and JARS is a part of that entertainment.”

Jars Cannabis COO Raymond Abro showed off the 4,000-square-foot center that is stocked with more than 100 brands across various categories and prices that is staffed by trained employees known as “budtenders.”

“This grand opening

celebration is a significant milestone not only for JARS, but also for the community, and we look forward to continuing our work with city officials and other prominent leaders in the community to promote a positive and inclusive cannabis culture in Mount Clemens,” he said in a statement.

During the grand opening, guests and customers nibbled on treats from the Donut Bar + Coffee food truck, and had access to cannabis freebies.

A spokesperson for the the cannabis retailer said they look forward to supporting the Mount Clemens community and are ready to develop partnerships with organizations that will enable Jars to support and give back to local businesses, food banks, and community development

initiatives.

Since its inception in 2020, Troy-based Jars has opened 15 stores and created 400-plus jobs across the state.

It is the second dispensary in Mount Clemens, the other being Pleasantrees, which opened in the former Gibraltar Trade Center on North River Road near Interstate 94.

The opening of the dispensaries puts Mount Clemens in line to share in the millions of dollars in marijuana disbursements to Michigan municipalities and counties.

Hours at Jars are 9 a.m.-9 p.m. seven days a week. The dispensary is located at 101 N. Groesbeck Hwy., Mount Clemens, phone 586-248-5631. For more information, visit jarscannabis.com/mountclemens.
