Fitzgerald stays undefeated with regional win over Marysville
The beat goes on for Fitzgerald’s girls basketball team.
CaSaundra Smith scored 23 points and Janiya McWilliams and Kaylynn Milander added 17 apiece Tuesday night to lead the undefeated Spartans to a 60-54 victory over Marysville in a Division 2 regional semifinal at Hazel Park.
Coach JuWan Shakespear’s team (23-0) will play Regina for the championship at 7 p.m. Thursday.
Avery Wolters scored 30 points and Ava Grant 12 for Marysville.
Fitzgerald led 22-20 at halftime in the battle of Macomb Area Conference champions.
Marysville won the Blue and Fitzgerald the Silver. Both teams won MAC tournament titles.
REGINA 51, SOUTH LAKE 40
Regina will play for a berth in the state basketball quarterfinals.
Maddy Mlynarek scored 15 points and Talyah Beard 13 to lead the Saddlelites over South Lake in a Division 2 regional semifinal at Hazel Park.
Coach Kevin Reese’s team goes for the championship when it plays Fitzgerald at 7 p.m. Thursday.
Christina Gibson scored 15 points and Da’Nia McClain 11 for South Lake.
Mlynarek, a junior, scored six points as Regina outscored South Lake 16-6 in the third quarter to take a 39-26 lead.
Regina is 9-12. South Lake finished 14-8.
KINGSTON 75, MERRITT 10
Delaney St. George scored 15 points to lead No. 2 Kingston to the regional semifinal victory at Kingston. The Cardinals (24-1) play Clarkston Everest for the championship Thursday.
