Deandre Demon Parks, 19, who was arrested earlier this week in connection to a March 6 shooting outside of Roseville Middle School, was charged and arraigned on an additional gun charge Friday.

Parks was arrested March 7 and charged with providing the handgun used by a 13-year-old youth to shoot a male parent outside the school. He was released on a personal bond March 8.

The 40-year-old victim was picking up his child or children from school about 3 p.m. Monday when he noticed the juvenile causing a disturbance among students outside the school, tried to intervene and was shot twice by the youth. The victim was in stable condition at a local hospital on Tuesday.

On Friday, Parks was taken into custody by special response team officers at his Roseville residence and charged with carrying a concealed weapon in a weapon free school zone, a felony punishable by five years in prison.

Roseville police said detectives developed evidence that shows Parks was in possession of a handgun, on Roseville Community Schools property. Detectives presented the additional evidence to the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office, who authorized the additional charge.

Parks was arraigned March 10 by 39th District Court Judge Alyia Hakim who set a $10,000 cash/ surety bond. The Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office had requested a $50,000 cash/surety bond and a mental health assessment through Community Corrections. The judge denied the request for the mental health assessment, which is part of Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido’s initiative on gun cases.

“Now is also the time to require felony gun suspects to get a mental health evaluation as a condition of bond before they get a chance to access another gun,” said Lucido.

Police said Parks has had “numerous” prior contacts with police. In an unrelated matter, Parks is charged with carrying a concealed weapon and receiving and concealing a stolen firearm for an incident last Nov. 9 in Roseville, according to 39th District Court records.

The defendant’s probable cause hearing is scheduled for March 15, 2023 at 8:30 am with his preliminary exam scheduled for March 22, 2023 at 8:30 am.
