A Macomb County man who police say had a wad of cash, a loaded handgun, and more than two dozen bales of marijuana in his pickup truck when he was pulled over for running a red light in Lenox Township was charged Friday with four crimes.

John Anthony Borelli, 28, of Chesterfield Township, was arraigned in 42-2 District Court in New Baltimore on felony counts of carrying a concealed weapon, delivery/manufacture of marijuana, and felony firearm. He also was charged with a misdemeanor count of having no driver’s license.

Borelli was given a $5,000 cash surety bond or 10% and transported to the Macomb County Jail. Records indicate he has since been released pending further court proceedings.

According to the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office, Borelli was pulled over about 12:50 a.m. Thursday after deputies saw his Ford F150 pickup truck drive through a red traffic signal from the Interstate 94 exit ramp to 26 Mile Road.

Deputies continued to follow the vehicle into New Haven, where they conducted a traffic stop. Borelli couldn’t produce a valid driver’s license and was arrested, while a passenger was escorted out of the truck for what officials called investigative purposes.

“During a pat search, the driver was found to be in possession of a loaded semiautomatic pistol as well as a large amount of cash in his pocket,” investigators said in a news release.

The driver does not have a license to carry the pistol, authorities said.

As they continued their investigation, sheriff’s officials discovered a large quantity of marijuana, along with a large sum of cash within the covered bed of the F-150.

“In total, over $25,000 in cash, along with 33 large plastic bags of marijuana were located in the pick-up truck,” investigators said.

Deputies transported Borelli to jail. The passenger of the truck, a 33-yearold Sterling Heights man, was released at the scene.
