The Detroit Lions have made their first free agent splash signing of the offseason.

According to NFL Network, the Lions are signing former Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Cameron Sutton.

The deal is reportedly worth $33 million over the next three seasons, with $22.5 million in guaranteed monies.

Detroit was rumored to be in the market for Los Angeles Rams cornerback Jalen Ramsey, but the veteran defensive back ended up being traded to the Miami Dolphins.

“The Pittsburgh corner just finished a two-year, $9 million deal but will be in a much higher tier this time,” ESPN recently explained. “His name is circulating right now at the cornerback spot. Could see some NFC North action here — the Vikings or Lions make sense. Raiders, too.”

The Steelers selected the former Tennessee standout in the third round (94th overall) of the 2017 NFL Draft.

He raised his stock by playing in the Senior Bowl.

The 28-year-old recorded three interceptions and 43 tackles for the AFC powerhouse last season.

The Lions secondary was seeking to add talent to a roster that featured Jeff Okudah and Jerry Jacobs.

Amani Oruwariye and Will Harris could be departing in free agency.

While Okudah showed flashes in 2022, his play left the coaching staff still wanting more, as he ended up in a reserve role towards the tail end of the season.

“He has to improve,” defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn said, when asked about the former No. 3 overall pick at the Scouting Combine. “I will say that, along with everybody else on our defense. And he knows that, and he did improve.

“But there is always going to be peaks and valleys when you play that position. You try to stay at the top as much as you can. But it’s hard, it’s hard. But I’ll tell you what, he is busting his butt. He’s trying his butt off to be at that top of the peak all the time.”

Sutton is coming off of solid season with the Steelers and has the shown the ability to play on the inside and outside in coverage.

For his career, Sutton has totaled 168 tackles and eight interceptions.
