Chesterfield Township Library

• Online learning tools for young children up to adult learners are available with a free library card at chelibrary.org. Residents may also apply for a free card at the website.

• Online streaming and download services are also available at chelibrary.org, including Hoopla, Libby by OverDrive and cloudLibrary for e-books and audiobooks, TV shows, music and more.

Clinton-Macomb Public Library

• Vincent Van Gogh at 10a.m. June 3 via Zoom. Karen Imarisio will discuss the life of Vincent Van Gogh and his sister-in-law, Johanna Van Gogh Bonger’s mission dedicated to promoting Vincent’s life and art. To register, call 586-226-5073.

• Portable Pond Ecology at 2 p.m. June 3at the South Branch with Naturalist Endeavors. Children ages 2-12will learn what makes ponds unique with this hands-on interactive program. Participants will have the opportunity to get their hands wet and meet the animals that live in ponds. To register, call 586226-5073.

• Summer Reading challenge returns to the Clinton-Macomb Public Library starting June 12, all ages can log their reading. Those that read for 30days between June 12and August 12will receive a prize from the library. This year CMPL will give a free book to every child and teen that registers for the challenge. Participants may register and log their reading at cmpl.beanstack. org/reader365.

• CMPL is again offering the 1-23 program combining one topic, two communities and three age appropriate books that discuss a particular topic. This year is climate change. Intentional programming centered on the topic will be offered. Books chosen are ‘The Tantrum that Saved the World’ by Megan Herbert and Michael E. Mann for children; ‘Dry’ by Neal Shusterman for teens and ‘The Story of More: How we got to climate change and where to go from here’ by Hope Jackson.

• The library is offering various virtual events that all require registration, which can be done at cmpl.libnet.info/events. A valid email address is required to access the events.

Eastpointe Public Library

• The library has an ongoing canned food drive. Non-perishable foods can be dropped off during open hours.

• The library is open for curbside service and phone reference service during regular hours. Patrons can place holds on items through the catalog or call to request materials. It is open to the public. Masks must be worn and social distancing practiced. Patrons will have access to library materials, computers, and copiers. Materials returned to the library must be placed in the drop box.

Fraser Public Library

Due to the library being hit by a vehicle, it is closed for the foreseable future. Do not access the drop box or return items to this location at this time. To return them go to any Suburban Library Cooperative Library, which incudes Clinton-Macomb Public Library, Roseville Public Library and Warren Public Library.

Harrison Township Public Library

• Knitting and Crochet Circle 10 a.m.-12p.m. Tuesdays June 6,

13, 20and 27. Knitters and crocheters of all levels are welcome. Please bring your own project and supplies. Items are donated to charitable organizations and the group is also accepting donations of yarn, fleece or craft store gift cards. Group donates to charitable organizations like Beaumont Little Angels, Project Linus, Compassion Pregnancy and more to give comfort items in times of need. Also accepting donations of Beanie Babies for children that are in need of comfort.

• Growing Plants from Seeds 3:30p.m. June 1. Master Gardener, Jim Keehn will share tips and tricks to get your new flowers from seed packets to beautiful pieces of the landscape. Participants will receive their very own zinnia seed and pot for transplanting into their garden. Registration required.

•Teen Advisory Board Meeting at 3 p.m. June 2 Join the Teen Advisory Board to suggest programs, events, and outreach for teens at the library, and we will help you make it happen! The Board operates on a drop-in basis.

The meeting counts as an hour of community service, but you can get additional community service hours by helping develop and host teen events you come up with. Snacks are provided. Registration appreciated.

• Del’s Chair Yoga 7p.m. June 6. Del from The Movement Collective guides us in a gentle yoga practice, using chairs to support our foundation so that we can move with ease. We will work on breathing, strengthening, stretching, and just being in the present with awesome people. Registration required.

• The Great Duck Hunt, can you hunt our ducks? Hiding around the library are eight pictures of rubber ducks. Find them all, record the code, and report back to the front desk. Contest runs June-August.

Residents can request materials be delivered to their homes. Request materials, once notified they are ready for pickup, contact the library at 586-329-1261 to set up delivery time.

• Adult Drop-In Dungeons and Dragons — Mondays from 5:30 p.m.-7:30p.m. Calling all D&D players! Our group of players tell a collective story, guiding heroes through dangerous quests to search for treasure, battle deadly foes, and even carry out daring rescues.

Ray Township Library

• Friends of the Library and Historical Society has released its 2023calendar titled ‘School Days: Lessons from Our Past’ which is available for purchase for $10 at the Ray Township offices and library as well as the Octagon House, Romeo Arts and Archives Center and Washington Museum. It will feature historical images of the schools throughout the community, from the 1860’s one-room schoolhouses to the earliest Romeo Senior High School buildings as well as inspirational sayings on education and learning. • Book Bundles for children. Fill in the form that can be found on the website, social media or in the newsletter and choose up to three topics or themes and a librarian will put together five books and place them on hold for you to pick up.

• Book Match Submit a Book Match form that can be found on the website, social media or in the newsletter. More detailed responses will result in better recommendations. After finishing the form expect to receive a custom reading list within 10 business days.

• Homework Help Tutor.com offers live assistance from tutors.

St. Clair Shores Public Library

• St. Clair Shores Cultural Committee is hosting a bus tour to Stahl’s Automotive Museum on June 6. The trip will take us back in time and help us gain a better understanding of how the automobile developed from a novelty to a main form of transportation. The Stahl’s Automotive Museum features historically significant cars from the Depression and Art Deco eras along with automotive memorabilia, gas pumps, road signs and other car related accessories. This tour is $10 for bus transportation. The bus will depart the library at 12:30 p.m., for a 1 p.m. arrival at the museum. We will depart the museum at 3p.m. to return to the SCS library at approximately 3:30p.m. Please bring a cash donation for entrance to the museum the day of the trip, suggested minimum donation of $5. Tickets can be purchased at the circulation desk.

• 1st Stop for Tots will be at 10 a.m. Mondays on the grounds of the Selinksy-Green Farmhouse Museum includes 30minutes of songs, rhymes and a story. • 1st Stop For Tots At Home kits. Families with children between the age of birth and age 3that reside in St. Clair Shores can request a kit. They contain one board book, one Easy book, on shaky egg, once scarf, one set of bells, two rhythm sticks, one Basic Skills Practice Ring set, a rhyme booklet, a Tips sheet and TALK promotional materials for families to keep. To reserve a kit, call the library at 586-771-9020, stop at the Youth Services Desk or email SCSYouth@libcoop.net. • The Youth Services department, with the help of grant funding, has created 14Explorer packs for children and families to check out. Each pack contains learning tools, non fiction books, activity sheets, identification guides and other manipulatives centered on an outdoor activity. Topics include insects, bird watching, astronomy water, hiking, plants and rocks. To check out an Explorer pack or for more information, ask at the Youth Services Desk.

Shelby Township Public Library

The library reopened to the public on March 6. Some programs and activities have been rescheduled while the library deals with the remediation process. For up to date program schedules visit shelbytwp.org/ library or visit the Library’s Facebook page.

Sterling Heights Public Library

• Library cardholders can reserve a time to use the Maker’s Space by appointment. Look for Maker Space Lab on the program calendar.

• Biblio Book Box offered for adults and Teen Book Box for teens offered every month. Register and a librarian will will pick a book based on your preferences and include a surprise.

• Toddler Time and Preschool storytimes are both offered at 10:30 and 11:30 a.m. Tuesdays. Registration is required. Check the library calendar for full details.

• PAWS for Reading 6-7p.m. Tuesdays. The first 10children to check in at the youth desk on Tuesday nights will be able to read to a therapy dog.

• The Upton House is open for self guided tours from 1-4 p.m. every Wednesday and second Sunday of the month. Register up to six people in a household. Registration only required for Wednesdays.

• Sterling Heights Public Library will continue curbside materials service, phone service, and home delivery/outreach service on Monday — Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday from 1-5 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30a.m. to 5 p.m. In addition, 24/7 digital library services are available at shpl.net.

Warren Public Libraries

• All Warren public library branches will be able to offer a telescope for patrons to check out with a valid library card thanks to being selected to be part of NASA @ My Library, an education initiative to increase and enhance science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM) opportunities for library patrons. The Warren Civic Center library will offer telescope events throughout the year as well.

• Grab-and-Go Science at Busch Branch Library has science themed kits available for check out exploring topics in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) with fun and kid-friendly hands on activities. Each kit also contains a related book and instructions. For children, tweens and teens ages six and up, recommended ages vary by kit and activity. More kits will be added to the collection soon. They can be checked out for 21 days and renewed up to two times and must be checked out and returned to the Busch Branch.

Warren Civic Center Library

• PAWS To Read 5-6 p.m. Wednesdays. Children of all ages can come and read to therapy dog Desmond, a 130-pound Newfypoo. The PAWS program welcomes new and struggling readers to read to a certified therapy dog. The goal is to provide a non-judgmental atmosphere in which kids can read without correction or interruption and learn not just to read, but to love reading as well.

• Babies Love Books is being relaunched with expanded kits. They are available for families that live in Warren with children from birth to age 3. Based on the Library of Michigan’s Ready to Read program and will focus on Talk, Sing, Read, Write and Play. Designed to help develop early literacy skills and instill a love of reading in the very young. Families who return a brief survey included with the kit will be eligible for a second kit with new books and activities.

• Families that are residents of Warren and has a child between the ages of 3-5 is eligible to receive a free early literacy kit to help prepare children for their kindergarten year. Kits include two activity workbooks and an early reader book to practice sight words. Kits are available for pickup at the Warren Civic Center Library and will also be available at children’s programs that are offsite. Children must be present for a kit to be issued.

• The library also has purchased Playaway Launchpads, which are tablets that are preloaded with educational preschool games and are available for checkout with a library card.

Warren Miller Branch

•Juneteenth presentation 6-7:30 p.m. June 8. Juneteenth is the federal holiday commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African-Americans. Join Professor of African-American Studies Kefentse Chike, PhD of Wayne State University for an engaging presentation of the historical context and significance of Juneteenth. Registration requested.

•Children ages 5-10 are invited to kick-off the Library’s Summer Reading 2023program at 6:30 p.m. June 8. To celebrate we will make a summer-y beaded wind chime and enjoy a tasty cold treat. All Macomb County libraries, as part of the Suburban Library Cooperative, subscribe to RB Digital which has over 100 digital magazines that can be checked out immediately. They also offer educational services through Tutor.com, which provides homework help, test preparation and term paper and resume review. Students can use their student ID number to access those services.
