Riders, volunteers needed for wheelchair 5Ks and other events
There is no charge to ride, chairs will be provided
Run for all and all for one is a saying associated with The Agape Project and its quest to provide wheelchair distance race experiences for people with disabilities.
The first opportunity is May 1 in Utica.
The Agape Project is looking for participants and volunteers for this 5K and a series of other wheelchair distance races going on throughout southeast
Michigan.
People with disabilities are invited to register for the 5K and other events. There is no charge to ride and chairs will be provided.
Volunteers are needed to run alongside or push participants and fill other needs like handing out T-shirts, distributing snacks and loading chairs.
Other 5K races will include:
• May 4 in Detroit
• May 11 in Chesterfield Township
• July 27 in Sterling Heights.
Longer events will be the 13.1 miles on June 2 from Dexter to Ann Arbor and 10 miles on Sept. 22 in Detroit, including a loop around
Belle Isle.
The first race will follow a route north of Utica-based Hansons Running Shop, a co-sponsor. The May 4 race will be part of the I Ran the D 5K that begins and ends at Comerica Park.
“The May 11 event is expected to include U.S. military veterans as participants and volunteers,” said Gerald Richter, secretary for The Agape Project.

“Chairs cost about $6,500,” Richter said, noting his group hopes to add to the number it has and expand events beyond southeast Michigan.
