-

A brush fire that began late Tuesday night and grew to 4,300 acres was 100 percent contained as of 1 p.m. Friday, the Maui Fire Department said.

Two engine companies and two MFD tankers remained on scene to continue mop-up operations.

The fire was first reported at 11:30 p.m. Tuesday on the makai side of Haliimaile Road near the Maui Trap & Gun Club Range. On Wednesday afternoon it had reached 1,900 acres, and by Thursday afternoon it had more than doubled to 4,300 acres.

It damaged numerous utility poles in the area but no other structures.

Fire Services Chief Rylan Yatsushiro said the cause was still unknown.
