Lots of food handed out

A Bayanihan Food Distribution event at the Binhi at Ani Filipino Community Center in Kahului on June 27 gave out 756 food packages and 988 plate lunches to those in need.

The food distribution was spearheaded by Binhi at Ani in cooperation with other businesses, individuals and community organizations, including the Maui Filipino Community Council. More than $8,000 in cash donations from more than 50 businesses, individuals and government officials and candidates were received for the event.

Another 50 businesses and individuals donated food, produce, canned goods and other items.

More than 150 volunteers helped to prepare the food and packages. In addition to the food packages and plate lunches, 260 bags of rice, 6,650 pounds of produce and 1,000 McDonald’s certificates were handed out.

The next Bayanihan Food Distribution is set for 9:30 a.m. July 25 at the Binhi at Ani Filipino Center.
