Waterford wins merit scholarship
Ameera Waterford, a senior at Seabury Hall, was selected as a winner of a National Merit Scholarship worth $2,500.
Waterford was chosen from a pool of 15,000 other finalists and 1.6 million total entrants from around the country.
“We are so proud of Ameera and her accomplishments both in and out of the classroom,î” said Seabury Hall Head of School Maureen Madden. “She is a disciplined student and an honest worker who does not shirk challenges. She gives her full attention and effort to everything she does.”î
Waterford is both a scholar and an athlete. She was named valedictorian of the Seabury Hall Class of 2020. In athletics, she was named The Maui News Maui Interscholastic League Player of the Year for DII basketball in 2019 and 2020. She also won multiple MIL and state championships in three varsity sports.
The National Merit Scholarship program evaluated applicant’s academic records, which included grades and difficulty of courses; scores from two standardized tests; contributions and leadership in school and community activities; an essay written by the entrant and a recommendation written by a high school official.
