Setsuko Igawa Kayatani, 85, of Kahului, well known as “Tiny”, passed away peacefully on June 29, 2020 after spending 75 days without any visitors in the hospital, came home under Hospice care. She was born on April 29, 1935 in Wailuku to the late Sakujiro and Hama (Kadomura) Igawa. After graduating from Baldwin High, she cooked and waited at Iao Needle Restaurant, Tasty Crust, Dairy Queen, Barefoot Boy, Shirley’s and lastly Shieks. She was a hard worker and didn’t want to stop until the pandemic made it impossible. Mom loved going to Las Vegas twice a year and did lots of search a word besides watching “KHON News” and “Wheel of Fortune”. She enjoyed her 2 days off going out to lunch and shopping. Her Special friends would come to Shieks for their favorite meal and mom would be so happy to see them.

She was a loving generous mom, proud grandmothe­r, great-grandmothe­r, and great-great grandmothe­r, who was also called “Grandma Tiny”. They loved her so much and she will be missed.

Setsuko is predecease­d by her companion, Motoyuki Kawahara; her brothers, Matsuo, Haruto, Aira (Wallace), Kaichi Igawa and sisters, Takeyo, Asama and Chitoe Igawa and Tamae Shimizu. She is survived by brothers, Takeo and Jiyukichi Igawa with numerous nieces and nephews; daughters, Merrilyn Almeida, Laureen (Ron predecease­d) Borge, Jan Kayatani and Dawn Kayatani and son Keith (Kaui) Kayatani. She is also survived by 12 grandchild­ren; Amy and Jason (Michiko) Almeida, Chelsey, Noelani, Leilani, Myron Borge, Kyleigh (Oscar) Quevedo, Jasmine (Phillip) Ramos-Abadilla, Jarred (Chelsea) RamosMonta­lvo, Joey (Kele-Jo) Ramos-Kahai and Amanda and Kapua Kayatani. 16 Great grandchild­ren, Akira Almeida, Alia, Jayna, Krissa, Kaira, Ransom Montalvo, Kloey Kahai, Mitchell and Micah Borge, Tyson, Bryson, and Kyson Prest, Po’okela, Lanakila, Kaikua, Kaikane Santos-Bras. And lastly 2 great-great grandchild­ren Hano and Kawai Barrows-Prest.

Thank you all for the great care she received at Maui Memorial. The family would like to express our gratitude to Colleen, Joanne, Daniel and Robin of Hospice Maui. Tiny will be missed by everyone that knew her especially her cooking at Shieks. A Celebratio­n of Life will be announced at a later date.
