Colo. woman who broke quarantine arrested in alleged Hana stabbing

-

A 24-year-old Colorado woman who had been arrested in May for violating the 14day mandatory travel quarantine was arrested early Friday for allegedly stabbing a woman in Hana, police said.

Tara Trunfio was charged with second-degree assault and resisting arrest. Her bail was set at $7,000.

Hana patrol officers were assigned to Hana Health clinic at 3:46 a.m. Friday to investigate a report of a woman with a stab wound, police said. It was alleged that Trunfio had stabbed the woman while they were at the end of Ulaino Road, police said.

After officers located Trunfio at the end of Ulaino Road, advised her of her constitutional rights and told her she was under arrest, Trunfio physically and verbally resisted, police said.

Police said a struggle ensued, and Trunfio was taken into custody at 5:07 a.m. and transported to the Hana Police Station. She was assessed by medics and later transported to the Wailuku Police Station Receiving Desk for processing.

She remained in police custody Friday afternoon.

In May, Trunfio was arrested in Kula for violating the 14day mandatory travel quarantine after arriving on Maui. A Maui Police Department social media post asked for public help in locating Trunfio, who was arrested at a Kula residence May 16 after a call reporting she was refusing to leave the property, police said.

After being arrested on two counts of violating public health emergency rules and orders related to COVID-19, Trunfio was released to another agency, according to police.
