Libraries to offer short, in-person visits

-

Public libraries that have long been closed to in-person visits will start allowing people to stop by the library for quick grab-and-go trips beginning Sunday.

“Wiki visits” will start at the top of the hour and will be available on a first-come, firstserved basis, according to a news release from the state library system. A limited number of patrons will have up to 45 minutes to find books and materials, ask for assistance or use copiers or a computer. Each person will be limited to one wiki visit per day. Newspapers, magazines and reading areas outside the library are not yet available.

Everyone entering public libraries will be required to follow mandated health and safety protocols at all times while inside. Visits are limited in an attempt to reduce exposure and allow time to disinfect hightouch areas.

All public libraries will continue to offer library takeout services for those who want to continue making appointments to pick up their books and materials. Libraries will also continue to provide free Wi-Fi zones outside all buildings.

Because the Kahului and Oahu’s Liliha and McCullyMoiliili libraries are undergoing renovation and repair work, they will not be offering wiki visits. The Hawaii State Public Library System will offer takeout services only as staff continue to help with unemployment processing.

The Lanai Public and School Library will also offer takeout services only in compliance with current state and county COVID-19 rules, which aim to curb a recent outbreak on the island.
