Latest developmen­ts:

■ State Department of Health reported 89 new cases as of 11:59 p.m. Wednesday, including 57 on Oahu, 19 on Maui, three on Hawaii island and two on Kauai. There were eight residents diagnosed out of state.

■ There now have been 18,951 cases statewide, including 16,059 on Oahu, 1,691 in Hawaii County, 790 in Maui County (662 on Maui, 106 on Lanai and 22 on Molokai) and 125 in Kauai County. A total of 286 cases have been diagnosed out of state. As a result of updated informatio­n, one case on Maui and another on Oahu were removed from the counts.

■ One death was reported on Oahu Friday, a man in his 50s who had underlying conditions and died at home.

■ There have now been 269 deaths officially reported statewide, including 206 on Oahu, 43 on Hawaii island, 17 on Maui, one on Kauai and two out of state.

■ Beginning today, bars and bar areas in restaurant­s in Maui County will temporaril­y be closed until Dec. 26. Maui County officials have said “bar-like behavior” and bar hopping have led to an uptick in cases.

■ FDA approves emergency use for Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine that Hawaii officials are expecting to receive as early as next week. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on identifyin­g COVID-19:

■ Fever and cough are symptoms.

■ Most people have mild illness and are able to recover at home. If you think you may have been exposed to COVID-19, contact your health care provider immediatel­y.

■ Keep track of symptoms.

■ If you have an emergency warning sign (including trouble breathing), get medical attention right away.

■ Some people who are not showing symptoms could have the illness.

Methods for preventing illness include:

■ Washing hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom, before eating and after nose-blowing, coughing or sneezing.

■ If soap and water are not readily available, use a hand sanitizer with at least 60 percent alcohol.

■ Avoiding touching eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.

■ Avoid contact with people who are sick; stay home if sick.

■ Wear a face mask in public settings. The mask is intended to protect others.

■ Social distancing: Stay 6 feet apart from others.

■ Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces daily. This includes tables, doorknobs, light switches, countertop­s, handles, desks, phones, keyboards, toilets, faucets and sinks.
