Amato pulls papers for state District 11 seat
Maui resident and former state Senate candidate Terez Amato has pulled papers to run for the state House of Representatives District 11 seat that covers Kihei, Wailea, Makena and Maalaea, Amato’s campaign announced Wednesday.
Amato, who grew up and raised her four children on Maui, said she is running because, “Maui deserves a truly progressive representative who is dedicated to working for the people, not for corporations or lobbyists, a representative who will protect our environment and work for our growing community.”
Amato ran for Senate District 6 in 2018 and lost to incumbent Sen. Roz Baker by 106 votes in a close Democratic primary.
“The people of Hawaii deserve a living wage, an affordable home, a clean environment, equitable and safe working conditions, improved health care,” Amato said. “They deserve a representative who is working for the people.”
Rep. Tina Wildberger, who currently holds the District 11 seat, announced earlier this month that she will not seek reelection. Amato said she planned to continue Wildberger’s work on climate resilience and marijuana legalization.
