Habitat for Humanity Maui celebrates 25th anniversary of building affordable homes
Habitat for Humanity Maui is celebrating its 25th anniversary of building affordable homes and repairing substandard housing for underserved residents in Maui County.
The nonprofit hosted a Silver Hammer Anniversary Gala on June 3 at the Andaz Maui at Wailea Resort to help raise funds for its programs. The event brought in community supporters, including Dowling Company, who was one of the main event sponsors and donated $10,000 to the organization’s efforts, according to a news release Thursday.
“Mahalo to all of our guests and donors,” Habitat for Humanity Maui Executive Director Matt Bachman said. “With your support and money raised, we will be able to continue to provide homeownership opportunities to our community. Because of the community support, we hope to keep nailing it for the next 25 years!”
Habitat for Humanity Maui builds and sells homes on a zero-interest mortgage and nonprofit basis. It serves lower-income families earning between 25 to 80 percent of Maui County’s median income and has a goal of eliminating homelessness and substandard housing on Maui.
Since becoming an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, Habitat for Humanity Maui has built and renovated over 200 homes in Maui County. The organization is currently building in Keokea-Waiohuli in partnership with the state Department of Hawaiian Home Land and are moving forward with an upcoming project in Hana which will feature 25 homes. It also offers assistance for struggling homeowners that are in need of safety repairs.
