New Maui resident Jena Serpico watches a wave break on the shore at Makena’s Big Beach. Even though the waves were tame by Makena standards, she said they were bigger than what she saw in Chicago. “I just moved here,” she said last week. “This is so great. They (the waves) seem bigger than when we usually come here.”
