Satellite catalog topic of discussion

Paul Schumacher will give a free presentation titled “The Future Satellite Catalog” at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Maikalani UH Institute for Astronomy Advanced Technology Research Center in Pukalani.

The U.S. military conducts an extensive worldwide satellite tracking operation to maintain a complete inventory, or catalog, of all know man-made objects in orbit around the Earth. Schumacher will describe for the general public the fundamentals of the satellite catalog. He also will describe the difficulties of building the future space catalog and why this problem is occupying a number of researchers in government laboratories around the country.
