Four Maui surfers advance at WSL Hawaiian Pro

Maui’s Imaikalani Devault, Dusty Payne, Billy Kemper and Cody Young advanced out of the first round Tuesday as the Hawaiian Pro got underway at Alii Beach Park in Haleiwa, Oahu.

Devault won his heat with a score of 11.83 to move on to the second round of the World Surf League qualifying series event that is also the first jewel of the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing.

Payne (12.23), Kemper (9.83) and Young (11.17) each posted second-place finishes in their heats to advance.

Among those eliminated Tuesday were Logan Bediamol (7.80), Makana Eleogram (8.17), Olamana Eleogram (8.87) and Tanner Hendrickso­n (9.03).
