Transporta­tion office closed for training

The county Department of Transporta­tion office in Wailuku will be closed from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday for staff

training,

The office is located at 2145 Kaohu St., Room 102. Signs will be posted on the office door to alert walk-ins.

Reiman to speak at Rotary

Carol Reiman of the Affordable Hawaii Coalition will be speaking at the Rotary Club of Kahului on Monday at Tante’s Island Cuisine in Kahului.

She will be discussing the state constituti­onal amendment for the Nov. 6 ballot pertaining to a surcharge on investment property to be used to support education.

Reimann, the former county director of Housing and Human Concerns, is vice president on Maui for Alexander & Baldwin. She serves on the nonprofit boards of the Maui Chamber of Commerce, Maui Economic Developmen­t Board, the Maui County Boy Scouts Council and Hale Makua.

Coalition represents a diverse group of concerned individual­s from all walks of life, including public education, the counties, real estate, affordable housing and rentals, small business and public unions.

The meeting will run from noon to 1 p.m.

Board members receive no compensati­on but may be reimbursed for travel and other expenses.

The nominating committee will provide recommenda­tions to the Supreme Court, which makes the final selections.
