Hoping Ogden will continue its promise to employees
My name is Margie Cooper and I am a retired compositor at The Maui News. I am writing in support of my former colleagues and coworkers as they pursue a new contract with management of the newspaper.
It is no secret that the cost of living in Hawaii, and Maui in particular, is close to financially impossible for most wage earners. With that uncomfortable fact in mind, I am hoping that both parties are not too far apart at this point.
I have fond memories of my 20 plus years (1984-2004) at the paper and will note here that when the paper was acquired by Ogden Publishing in 2000, and through to my leaving in 2004, I was impressed to see Mr. Nutting as a man of his word, (rare in today’s business world) when he assured the Cameron family that he would look out for the well-being of his new employees as they had done before and has actually done so.
In what must be a very difficult time financially for The Maui News, I am hoping that Ogden Publishing will continue in that impressive commitment to its employees. Margie D. Cooper
