Four new resident COVID19 positive cases were reported at Roselani Place in the last week ending Monday, raising the assisted living facility total to 56.

In its weekly report, the Kahului facility said the resident total is now 28. No new staff cases have been reported in the past two weeks; staff cases stand at 28.

Eighteen resident cases currently are active, Roselani said.

Two deaths earlier this month, involving residents who were COVID-19 positive, were not the result of the virus, Roselani said. Their doctors determined the deaths not to be COVID-19 related.

A woman died at Maui Memorial Medical Center and another woman died at Roselani. The deaths occurred Sept. 1 and 2.

The facility continues to regularly test staff and residents, Roselani said. A total of 104 tests were administered on Sunday and Monday and 3 percent resulted in positive outcomes.

The first case at Roselani involved a resident who had returned from Maui Memorial Medical Center. Hospital and Roselani officials have said the resident tested negative multiple times, including the day before discharge. However, the resident had come in contact with hospital workers who had the virus and tested positive after returning to Roselani.

The state COVID-19 Joint Information Center reported no deaths at noon Tuesday, maintaining the state total at 120, including nine on Maui.

There were 63 new cases statewide — 55 on Oahu, eight on Hawaii island and none in Maui and Kauai counties. Maui County’s total stayed at 385, including 15 cases on Molokai and none on Lanai. Honolulu had 10,393 cases, Hawaii island, 659; and Kauai, 57. A total of 28 cases involved residents diagnosed outside of Hawaii.

As of Monday afternoon, there were no COVID-19 hospitalizations at Maui Memorial Medical Center, the JIC reported.

State Department of Health graphics show a downward positive case load in Maui County since around Aug. 17. The seven-day average is one new case a day for Maui County. In the past month, only East Maui and Lanai have reported no new cases.
