Woman enters home, refuses to leave, police say

WAILUKU — A 32-yearold woman was arrested Wednesday night after she entered a woman’s residence in Wailuku and refused to leave, according to police.

Meikilani Winn was charged with first-degree unauthorized entry into a dwelling and habitual property crime.

According to a declaration filed in court to support the charges, Winn entered the victim’s unlocked residence on Waipono Lane at about 10 a.m. and said she was a caretaker. At about 5 p.m., Winn began yelling at the victim, who realized she wasn’t a caretaker, according to the declaration.

Police reported finding Winn hiding in the bathroom and arrested her at 6:11 p.m.

During her initial appearance Thursday in Wailuku District Court, Deputy Prosecutor

Lewis Littlepage asked for bail to be increased to $10,000 for Winn.

She has no local address and multiple convictions for contempt of court and failure to appear, Littlepage said. He said Winn also was arrested on two warrants alleging failure to comply with probation.

Deputy Public Defender David Pullman asked that bail remain at $1,000 for Winn.

Sheriff’s deputies removed her from the courtroom Thursday when she disregarded a judge’s order to stop talking during the hearing.

Judge Blaine Kobayashi set bail at $10,000.

According to the complaint against Winn, she could face a mandatory minimum prison term if convicted of felony charges based on her prior convictions for second-degree forgery and unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle.
