Walk-in COVID-19 testing is available for general public

Doctors On Call, Maui’s Urgent Care will be opening a Rapid COVID-19 Testing Center in Kahului beginning Monday.

Tests will be offered 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays; no appointmen­t is needed. Results will be available one hour after the test and relayed through telemedici­ne.

The test is covered by Hawaii Medical Service Associatio­n/Blue Cross Blue Shield preferred provider and health maintenanc­e organizati­on plans, Hawaii Medical Assurance Associatio­n, Kaiser, UHA and Medicare. For all others, the cost will be $83, paid at the time of testing by credit card; no cash accepted.

Testing will be in the parking lot of Doctors On Call Maui Rapid COVID Testing Center, 22 Hana Highway. Those being tested should come to the office door to receive forms and return to their car, where the test will be conducted by a nurse.

Those getting tested need to have valid identifica­tion and health insurance card.

The Rapid COVID-19 test is only available on Maui at Doctors On Call, it said. The test is approved by the Food and Drug Administra­tion and has an accuracy rate comparable to the PCR test.

“Residents and visitors will now be able to take appropriat­e steps for health and safety for their families, their community, and themselves with affordable and readily available tests,” said Paige Williams, managing director of Doctors On Call.

“In offering the Rapid COVID test, our goal is to help local businesses and the visitor industry open safely. It is ideal for quickly identifyin­g COVID positive individual­s in the workplace, in schools, and in the community,” said Dr. James Barahal, co-founder of Doctors On Call Maui.
