7 more Roselani residents test positive
Case count now up to 67; 19 cases active
Seven more residents at Roselani Place have tested positive for COVID-19, bringing the total case count to 36 residents and 31 staff, Roselani Place management said Tuesday.
The senior independent and assisted living community has been coping with an outbreak since late August, when eight residents and 12 staff contracted the coronavirus. Since then, staff and residents have been tested weekly. As of Saturday, the number of cases had reached 67, including 36 residents and 31 staff members, according to Roselani management.
While no additional staff have tested positive over the last three weeks, seven more residents have received positive results since last week. Of the 67 total cases, 19 are currently active, all residents. Four will be taken off of active status on Friday.
As a result, Maui District Health Officer Dr. Lorrin Pang has instructed the facility to change the resident isolation period from 14 days to 21 days, Roselani said. Residents and staff who test negative will continue to be tested.
Roselani has also been directed to test residents and staff every four days, another change since last week, though this could change moving forward depending on future test results.
As of Saturday, rates of positive testing had increased to 7.07 percent, or seven positives out of a total 99 tested, Roselani said.
The facility continues to restrict
visitors.
On Tuesday, the state Department of Health reported 83 new COVID-19 cases, including 67 on Oahu, 14 on Hawaii island and two on Maui. There have now been 12,937 cases statewide, including 11,613 on Oahu, 834 in Hawaii County, 397 in Maui County (including 19 on Molokai and none on Lanai) and 59 in Kauai County. Thirty-four Hawaii residents have been diagnosed out of state.
Three more deaths were also reported Tuesday, all women from Oahu with underlying conditions. Two were over 80 years old and died at home. The third woman was in her 60s and died in the hospital.
Statewide there have now been 160 deaths, including 132 on Oahu, 15 in Hawaii County, 12 in Maui County and one out of state.
