COVID-19 AT A GLANCE

Latest developments:

■ State Department of Health reports 101 new cases Wednesday, including 81 on Oahu, 18 on Hawaii island and one in Maui County. There were no new cases in Kauai County. One resident was diagnosed outside of Hawaii.

■ There now have been 13,674 cases statewide, including 12,176 on Oahu, 992 in Hawaii County, 409 in Maui County (including 19 on

Molokai and none on Lanai) and 59 in Kauai County. A total of 38 cases have been diagnosed out of state. As a result of updated information, two cases from Oahu were removed from the counts.

■ There were 10 deaths reported statewide Wednesday — including five on Maui. There have been a total of 183 deaths — 146 on Oahu, 18 in Hawaii County, 18 in Maui County and one out of state.

■ The Maui deaths occurred between Aug. 15 and Sept. 30 and are the result of updated information on the cause of death. Two men and two women were older than 80 years old and one man was between 60 and

69. All the men were hospitalized with underlying conditions. The two women with underlying conditions died in a nursing home.

■ As of Tuesday, there was one person hospitalized at Maui Memorial Medical Center due to COVID-19.

■ The state’s pre-travel COVID-19 testing program takes effect today. Trans-Pacific and interisland travelers can arrive on Maui and avoid a 14-day quarantine if they have a negative COVID-19 test taken no more than 72 hours before departure. The quarantine on travel between the islands of Maui County also will be lifted today.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on identifying COVID-19:

■ Fever and cough are symptoms.

■ Most people have mild illness and are able to recover at home. If you think you may have been exposed to COVID-19, contact your health care provider immediately.

■ Keep track of symptoms.

■ If you have an emergency warning sign (including trouble breathing), get medical attention right away.

■ Some people who are not showing symptoms could have the illness.

Methods for preventing illness include:

■ Washing hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom, before eating and after noseblowing, coughing or sneezing.

■ If soap and water are not readily available, use a hand sanitizer with at least 60 percent alcohol.

■ Avoiding touching eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.

■ Avoid contact with people who are sick; stay home if sick.

■ Wear a face mask in public settings. The mask is intended to protect others.

■ Social distancing: Stay 6 feet apart from others.

■ Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces daily. This includes tables, doorknobs, light switches, countertops, handles, desks, phones, keyboards, toilets, faucets and sinks.
