Blessing of animals set at Keawala‘i

-

There will be an annual blessing of the animals service at 10 a.m. Dec. 5 at Keawala‘i Congregational Church in Makena.

Churches celebrate the blessing of animals in remembrance of St. Francis of Assisi’s love for all creatures. At Keawala‘i, it has become a tradition that the blessing is held in December. Readings, prayers and a blessing will be offered as well as pictures with Santa.

Arrangements for the day will take into account the needs of various animals and includes dogs, cats, birds, hamsters, rabbits or any other pets. Dogs must be leashed at all times and other animals must be safely contained.

This year’s event will include precautions due to COVID-19. There will be a sign-in sheet for contact tracing. Masks and social distancing will be required.

The service is being coordinated through the ministry and the church’s board of deacons, with the help of church members.
