Bail raised to $20K for man accused of assault, theft of truck
WAILUKU — Bail was set at $20,000 for a man who was arrested for allegedly assaulting another man while stealing his truck Saturday in Paia.
Mark Fisher, 51, of Hana was charged with second-degree robbery, first-degree unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle, unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle and second-degree terroristic threatening.
The 1996 Ford pickup truck was reported stolen at 11:40 a.m. Saturday after the owner had parked the vehicle at Minit Stop in Paia.
After locating the truck in the Paia municipal parking lot, the owner was leaving the parking lot when Fisher jumped into the truck bed, opened the rear window and choked and punched the owner, according to a declaration filed in court to support the charges.
At the intersection of Hana
Highway and Baldwin Avenue in Paia, the owner got out of the truck to try to get Fisher out of the vehicle, police said. The two men struggled in the intersection before Fisher got into the pickup truck and drove in the Hana direction on Hana Highway, police said.
Fisher was arrested after police responded to a call at 2:55 p.m. Saturday about a disorderly man yelling in the parking lot of Pauwela Cannery on West Kuiaha Road in Haiku. Police said the man was identified as Fisher, who was standing next to the stolen truck.
During Fisher’s initial appearance Monday in Wailuku District Court, Deputy Prosecutor Lewis Littlepage asked for bail to be increased from $6,000 to $20,000.
Judge Blaine Kobayashi granted the request.
Fisher was ordered to stay away from Minit Stop in Paia and the Paia municipal parking lot.
