Jazz Maui to honor Black History Month
Jazz Maui will hold “A Musical Tribute to Black History Month” on Saturday to celebrate classic African American-inspired music and benefit music education programs.
The dinner shows at The Empanada Lady Maui in Wailuku will feature accomplished Maui musicians and poetry by Bryant Neal and Ayin Adams, according to a news release.
Performers will include pianist and vocalist Sal Godinez, guitarist and vocalist Ron Metoyer, drummer Jesse Smith, bass player Jay Molina, contemporary jazz and soul vocalist Sarah Black, professional guitarist and music educator Prem Brosio and singer, songwriter, author and poet Tanama Colibri.
The two dinner shows will take place at 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. and are open only to adults over age 18, with ID required. Tickets are $10 and are available at jazzmaui.org. Seating is limited, and table reservations may be made by calling 868-4544. The event is semi-outdoor with socially distanced COVID-19 policies in effect.
The Empanada Lady is located at 2119 W. Vineyard
Street and offers traditional Caribbean food from the Dominican Republic, Cuba, Puerto Rico and Jamaica.
Jazz Maui is a nonprofit organization that provides opportunities for participation in high-quality jazz music education and performances for students of all ages.
