Lanai deer, sheep hunting applicatio­ns open today

Online applicatio­ns for the 2021 Lanai Axis Deer and Mouflon Sheep Season will be available to the public beginning today, the state Department of Land and Natural Resources Division of Forestry and Wildlife announced.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, hunters are required to apply online.

The deadline for submitting applicatio­ns is 4 p.m. March 19. Interested hunters are encouraged to submit applicatio­ns well before the deadline to ensure proper processing.

The 2021 Lanai Axis Deer and Mouflon Sheep Season will consist of four hunts. All Lanai residents who apply will be allowed to participat­e in all four hunts; 75 non-Lanai residents are allowed at each hunt. They are:

≤ Archery Hunt, which will be held over 12 consecutiv­e days, beginning May 26 and ending June 6.

≤ Youth Hunt, which will be open June 9-13.

≤ Muzzleload­er Hunt, which will be open June 16-20.

≤ General Rifle Hunt, which will be held over 18 consecutiv­e weeks and open Wednesdays through Sundays, beginning on June 23 and ending on Oct. 24. It is limited to 75 nonLanai resident hunters per week.
