Due to the increased number of visitors to Hawaii during spring break, the Transportation Security Administration is advising travelers departing from any of Hawaii’s commercial airports to arrive more than two hours prior to their flight.

Airports across Hawaii have been busy — 15,882 passengers arrived from out of state on Tuesday, including 9,548 who said they came for vacation and 2,425 returning residents, according to the Hawaii Tourism Authority.

Honolulu had the most arrivals with 9,012, including 1,893 returning residents, while Kahului followed at 4,665 arrivals, including 353 returning residents.

In addition to arriving two hours early, TSA also advised travelers to:

≤ Wear a mask throughout the airport and during the security screening process. Travelers without a mask will be denied entry to the security checkpoint, boarding and continued transport. Failure to comply with the mask requirement can result in civil penalties.

≤ Practice social distancing for the safety of other travelers and employees.

≤ Consider checking luggage to reduce the number of carry-on bags and personal items that need to be screened.

≤ Be prepared for the screening process and avoid bringing prohibited items to the security checkpoint. Travelers can download the myTSA app and use the “Can I Bring?” feature to find out whether an item is allowed in carry-on luggage or needs to be placed in checked baggage.
