Bail increased for man facing additional sex assault charges

-

A judge increased bail to $150,000 for a Kihei man who is facing additional charges alleging he sexually assaulted two people.

Abiola Oluwatimilehin, who is also known as David Abiola, 23, had asked for his bail to be reduced when he appeared in court Thursday in his latest case.

His family has been trying to post bail for his release, said Deputy Public Defender Danielle Sears. She said Oluwatimilehin has a wife and child, as well as his mother and stepfather, on Maui.

Deputy Prosecutor J.W. Hupp asked to keep bail at $100,000, noting that Oluwatimilehin is facing charges of sexual assault and electronic enticement of a child in two other cases.

In his latest case, he has pleaded not guilty to first-degree sexual assault, seconddegree sexual assault and attempted second-degree sexual assault.

Hupp said the case involves sexual assaults of two people.

Oluwatimilehin is charged with first- and second-degree sexual assault of one victim in September 2016 and attempted second-degree sexual assault of another victim on Nov. 28, 2020, according to an indictment returned last month by a Maui County grand jury.

In increasing the bail amount, 2nd Circuit Judge Kelsey Kawano said, “Given the severity of the offenses, in consideration or preventing a risk of harm to the public, the court believes that bail in the amount of $150,000 is a reasonable, appropriate amount.”

A Jan. 13 pretrial conference is set for Oluwatimilehin, who is being held at the Maui Community Correctional Center.

His bail is set at $150,000 in another case for his arrest on a charge of first-degree electronic enticement of a child in March as part of “Operation Keiki Shield 7.”

He also is being held in lieu of $21,000 on charges of second-degree sexual assault and third-degree sexual assault of a woman while she was sleeping at her residence in February 2018, according to court records.
