Booster shot eligibility expands at Maui Health

-

Maui Health has expanded eligibility for the COVID-19 booster shot to all individuals approved by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the health care provider announced Thursday afternoon.

The clinic at Maui Memorial Medical Center is now providing booster doses of the Pfizer vaccine to all eligible health care and other frontline workers, including teachers and hotel employees, whose occupation or workplace settings present an increased risk of infection or transmission of COVID-19, according to a news release.

The administration of the booster dose is in conjunction with the hospital’s ongoing administration of the first, second and third dose to all eligible individuals.

Individuals who qualify include those who have already received both doses of the

Pfizer vaccine, with the last dose received at least six months ago, and meet one of the following criteria:

≤ 65 years of age or older. ≤ Nursing home or assisted living residents.

≤ Foster home and community care home residents.

≤ 18 to 64 years of age with underlying medical conditions, including cancer, diabetes, asthma, HIV infection, heart disease and obesity.

≤ 18 to 64 years of age with increased risk for COVID-19 exposure and transmission because of occupational or institutional setting, including but not limited to health care, correctional facility staff and prisoners, and individuals in homeless shelters.

Maui Health’s COVID-19 vaccine clinic, located in the main lobby at Maui Memorial, is open from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Monday through Friday. Qualified individuals can make an appointment in the Vaccine Administration Management System at vams.cdc.gov if preferred, but all eligible individuals, including the expanded booster dose individuals, can bypass an appointment and walk in for their vaccine during regular clinic hours.

A valid ID is required for vaccination, and participants must bring their vaccination card. To expedite the appointment process, download and complete the insurance information form prior to arriving and bring a copy of ID and insurance cards. Insurance is not required to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. Further instructions, forms and the most up-to-date information can be found at maui health.org/covidvaccine.
