Jail time, probation ordered for man who forced his way into home

-

WAILUKU — A man who was “out of control” when he forced his way into his grandmother’s house last year was sentenced Thursday to a oneyear jail term as part of four years’ probation.

Keone Long, 34, who gave no local address, had pleaded guilty to first-degree unauthorized entry into a dwelling, abuse and third-degree assault.

On the night of Dec. 11 to 12, “the defendant was out of control,” said Deputy Prosecutor Shelly Miyashiro.

“He engaged in violent and aggressive behavior toward his family members and neighbor,” she said.

After forcing his way into his grandmother’s residence in violation of a temporary restraining order, Long punched his uncle in the face and struck a neighbor, Miyashiro said.

She said a plea agreement recommending probation and the jail term for Long was reached after she spoke with the victim and other family members.

“His family members do care for him,” Miyashiro said. “They’re concerned for his health. They do want him to eventually get back on his feet.”

Long said he was hoping to get a job when he is released from jail. “I take full responsibility for my actions,” he said.

In following the plea agreement to sentence Long, 2nd Circuit Judge Kelsey Kawano said Long would benefit from the structure that probation could provide him.

“I will try my best,” Long said.

He was ordered not to consume alcohol or illegal drugs and to complete anger management treatment. He also was ordered to have no contact with the victims and stay away from their residences on Kaikoo Place in Wailuku.
