Applicants sought for South Maui Community Plan Advisory Committee

-

Applications for the South Maui Community Plan Advisory Committee are now being accepted through June 30 by the Planning and Sustainable Land Use Committee.

Nine of the CPAC’s 13 members will be appointed by the council, while four will be appointed by the mayor, according to a news release Thursday from committee Chairwoman Tamara Paltin and Vice Chairwoman Kelly Takaya King. Applicants residing in the South Maui community plan area, which includes Maalaea, Pulehunui, Kihei, Wailea, Makena and Ahihi-Kinau, are encouraged to apply. “To the extent possible, the council will strive to appoint committee members who represent a cross section of their community, one that embodies diversity and balance of age, gender, ethnic and socio-economic background, profession, heritage, experience and ideology of all CPAC participants and from sub-areas of the South Maui community plan area,” Paltin said.

Experience in land use planning is helpful but not required.

Meetings will be held in the South Maui community plan area but most likely with hybrid capability for health and safety reasons, Paltin said. The volunteer position comes with an expected commitment of at least six months, according to King.

“We hope to appoint committed, long-time residents who love our community and will work to assure smart, sustainable development that respects the culture and environment,” said King, who also holds the South Maui residency seat.

Applications must be postmarked by 4:30 p.m. June 30, or if delivered, timestamped at the South Maui District Office at the Maui Economic Development Board Building at 1305 N. Holopono St., Suite 9, in Kihei, or at the Office of Council Services at 200 S. High St., 7th floor, in Wailuku, by the deadline. Applications can also be emailed to pslu.committee@mauicounty.us.
