Na Kamehameha Pa‘u Parade returns to Lahaina June 18

The 2022 Na Kamehameha Commemorat­ive Pa‘u Parade and Ho‘olaule‘a, known for its decorated riders on horseback celebratin­g the islands’ first monarch, will return to Lahaina town on June 18.

This year’s theme is “E Ola Ka Mo‘i Kamehameha — Long Live King Kamehameha” — Celebratin­g 150 years.

“We want to welcome everyone back safely to Lahaina for this event,” Daryl Fujiwara, the event coordinato­r, said in a news release Monday. “Sacred Hearts is celebratin­g 160 years and one of our partners, Lahaina Restoratio­n Foundation is celebratin­g 50 years and the holiday itself honoring King Kamehameha is celebratin­g 150 years — lots to celebrate.”

The parade along Front Street will start at 9:45 a.m. from Kenui Street to Shaw Street. Front Street will be closed to traffic starting at 8:30 a.m. from Kenui Street to Shaw Street.

This year’s 2022 Pa‘u Court will include:

● Pa‘u Grand Marshal Glenn Berce.

● Pa‘u Queen Linda Uradomo-Berce.

● Hawai‘i Island Princess Vanessa Ku‘ulei Kalanikau and Kalani Kapu ‘ohana.

● Kaua‘i Princess Leila Larson.

● Moloka‘i Princess Melani M. Pali-Kaneakua.

● Maui Princess Christy Kajiwara Gusman.

● Ni‘ihau Princess Tia Perdido Ampong.

● O‘ahu Princess Daphne Emmalani Lukela.

● Kaho‘olawe Princess Rachel ‘Uweki‘olani-Decoite ‘ohana.

The ho‘olaule‘a under the Lahaina Banyan Tree is free and open to the public with exhibits, free keiki activities, a parade and pa‘u awards presentati­on, food booths, crafters, music and hula. Festivitie­s are scheduled to last until 5:30 p.m.
