Na Alii girls soccer earns trip back to states

The King Kekaulike High School girls soccer team secured its fifth straight trip to the state tournament Saturday with a 5-0 victory over Lahainalun­a at Sue Cooley Stadium in Lahaina.

On the final day of the Maui Interschol­astic League season for the girls, the victory lifted Na Alii to 7-1-4 (25 points) to avoid tying Baldwin (7-4-1, 22 points) in the standings.

Na Alii, who had their string of four straight MIL titles snapped by Kamehameha Maui this year, will host a state tournament first-round game on Jan. 30 against an opponent to be determined.

The Lunas-Na Alii boys game, scheduled for earlier Saturday, was postponed. A

make-up date has not yet been announced.

In other Saturday matches, the Baldwin girls completed their season with a 2-0 victory over Maui High (4-8-0).

Sammy Citrawirej­a and Mayah Soares scored goals for the Bears.

In the boys match at the Sabers’ field, Baldwin got two goals apiece from Koa Kiesling

and Travis Delos Santos in beating Maui High 8-0.

Brayden Barbosa, Sami Paci and Maika Warner each netted a goal for the Bears, who also benefitted from an own goal. The Sabers fell to 1-7-0. Next up for Baldwin (7-1-0) is a key matchup with King King Kekaulike (6-1-0) on Wednesday Upcountry as the boys season enters its final week.

In girls Division II play, Seabury Hall (6-0-0) wrapped up a perfect season against Molokai (0-6-0) with a 10-0 win on the Friendly Isle.

Quin Quinabo and Freya Carlsen each scored three goals for the Spartans. Madi Kelly tacked on two goals and Malia Luther and Erika Hammer each scored one.
