Pine Lads, Farmers advance to MIL semifinals

The Molokai and Lanai high schools boys basketball teams both moved on in the Maui Interschol­astic League Division II tournament with first-round victories on Wednesday night at the Bozich Center on the Maui Prep campus in Napili.

The fifth-seeded Farmers edged No. 4 Haleakala Waldorf 50-47. With the win, Molokai (4-7) advances to face top-seeded Seabury Hall today at 5:30 p.m. at King Kekaulike Gym. Haleakala Waldorf’s season ended at 5-6.

Jericho Adolpho led Molokai with 17 points and Demare’a Braxton added 11. Waldorf got 20 points from Cyris Laurie-Schaefer and 18 from Kyle Kelmenson.

In the other first-round game on Wednesday night, the thirdseede­d Pine Lads beat sixthseede­d Hana 67-32 to advance to a semifinal against No. 2 Maui Prep at 7 p.m. tonight at King Kekaulike.

Lanai (7-4) got 15 points from Makaiah Alboro, 12 from Sam Dimaya III and 10 from Ryan Noble. Irie Mizner led Hana (0-11) with 18 points.
