Waves and wind at Sea Ranch
The Little River Course is attracting more and more out of the area golfers. Local golfers are observing the increase and most are OK with the influx and it looks like most everyone is adhering to the COVID-19 masking rules.
I can’t blame out of the area golfers for coming. Little River is a fun course with great views and a dedicated staff. Speaking of staff, hats off to pro shop manager Kathy Shepley, Jim McDannold and Dave Jones for the wonderful and at times stressful job they are doing in their effort to keep up the flow of play and golfers safe.
The crew dutifully sprays disinfectant on each golf cart as it is returned. Range ball buckets are also disinfected between use. They are busy, busy, busy — and still manage to be relentlessly courteous. Thank you.
Sunday, June 28, my son Oscar, an old local friend of his Jack Bush and myself, drove to Sea Ranch for an interesting day of golf. Jack drove himself to avoid the in-car close contact. The wind, she was already blowing as we navigated Highway 1.
Fisherman say if it’s blowing above Point Arena, it is screaming on the other side and it was.
At Sea Ranch, golfers check-in without going inside — credit cards only. Despite the wind, it was a fun day. Actually, you are not wind-whipped on all holes; it’s some more than others. The sun was out, we eventually played in short sleeves and it was pleasant. Oh yes, the wind did have its say-so on the game, and the ocean was a solid flock of sheep.
Retired school-teacher Bill Speake, who also coached golf, shared a golf dream with me from last week.
Bill said he dreamt he was giving his golf kids a lesson. He was standing in the middle of a circle of students that increased to 20. Bill was teaching the students to keep that left arm straight, bend the right elbow and make sure your right thumb is underneath the club at the top.
I listened intently. Seemed like good advice.
Bill then said he woke up in the dream realizing he was teaching himself the lesson. I believe Bill had top Stableford points in our group that day. Keep the dream lessons coming, Bill.
Joe “Bob” Murray made his appearance on the course last Friday accompanied by his son Forrest. As always, Joe was in good spirits. Joe and Forrest accompanied Terry Stratton, John Johansen and the Golf Notes guy for a few holes on the ol’ course. Joe’s golf this time was limited to putting. Joe can still find the hole. ‘Twas nice to see you, Joe.
