Does the World Record Bass live in Clearlake?

-

Many anglers just don’t realize how blessed we are. Just over the hill we have the #1 rated bass fishery in the entire United States. Yup, everytime Teresa and I fish Clear Lake there is a good chance that we could hook in to a bass of a lifetime. And shoot, maybe even catch a world record bass. I agree with those who feel that the world record bass lives and swims freely in Clear Lake.

LARGEMOUTH BASS RECORDS: The current

Clear Lake record for largemouth bass is 17.52 pounds. This huge bass was hooked by Jerry Basgal Feb. 25, 1990. — The largest largemouth bass to be legally caught in California weighs 21 pounds 12 oz. by Micheal Arujo at Lake Castaic.- The record largemouth for the United States and the world are two in the same. Back in 1932 a gentleman by the name of George Perry caught the world record largemouth bass in Montgomery Lake in Georgia which weighed 22 pounds 4 ounces. There has been some “hub-bub” over the years about Mr. Perry’s catch. Because there was not any known photographs taken, some folks were skeptical. But in 2006 some of George’s family found a picture that verified the catch.-Eleven years ago there was a challenger . Across the big pond at Lake Biwa, Japan a angler by the name of Manabu Kurita caught a 22 pound, 5 ounce largemouth bass . Yes, Mr. Kurta’s bass weighed one ounce more than Mr. Perry’s. But, Manabu’s bass didn’t beat the world record because it did not trump the exsiting record by 2 ounces. So, most anglers feel that Mr. George Perry and Mr. Manabo Kurita have tied for the worlds largest bass.-I have saved the biggest bass for last.

Back in 2006 the largest bass ever recorded was hooked. Mac Weakley “foulhooked” a huge bass that weighed 25 pounds, one ounce on Lake Dixon, California. Mac’s bass does not count as an world record because it was “foulhooked.” The bass Mr. Weakley caught is proof that there are monster bass in California’s lakes. And, the odss that the world record would come from Clear Lake are very good. No other bass fishery produces the quanities of huge bass being caught . Hince, Clear Lake is currently rated the #1 bass fishery in the United States
