Why Bass anglers are glad October will be over soon

- Don Moir

If anyone where to ask me if I had the opportunity to fish with any professional bass angler in world who would it be? Hands down, by far, the angler would Mr. Gerald Swindle aka the “GMAN.” This man has a down right, down to earth, funny way of seeing the world.

The other day I watched one of his videos in which he was talking about how tough the fishing has been the past four weeks for himself and his fellow bass tournament competitors. Gerald said he had someone ask him what do you think about Fall fishing ? His reply was, “Ha-ha, Fall fishin’ is why I hunt during the month of October. Why do you think college football is so big in the south? Because the fishin’ stinks! That’s why college football is so big.. The fishin’ is tough in October! Shoot, it’s hard to even get a bite sometimes. Now, with being said, a fall tournament can be easy to win. The guy who gets a couple good bites can win it all. It’s all about havin’ some luck. “*GMAN for President..

BLUE LAKES — The Upper Blue Lake has been producing some very nice bass. With the drop in temperature, the bass have become more active. The favorite prey for the bass on Blue Lakes are sunfish, bluegill, and baby bass. So if you are fishing with a lure that resembles them you will do very well. Cover a lot of water, make long casts at different angles around cover. Also several anglers have done quite well fishin’ the drop shot rig. The Narrows area always produces some nice bass drop shottin’.

*The trout fishin’ has been fair lately. But, the cooler weather will bring the trout up to the surface. With that, the trout fishing will improve. Lures like a Rooster Tail’s, Super Duper’s, Spoons, or Cast Master’s will working well. PLUS, here is some really good news! California Department of Fish and Wildlife has or, will shortly be stocking the Upper Blue Lake with some nice rainbows. And, a little bird told me that the East Fork of the Russian River was going to receive a plant as well. COOL! Thank you Fish & Wildlife!- Good luck!

LAKE SONOMA — Lake Sonoma, like most lakes this time of year, the Fall colors are beautiful! The only boats on the water, are those of fellow anglers. The word on the dock is that the fishing has really picked up as of late. The cooler, Fall mornings we are having has started to turn the bass bite on. Try fishin’ the Old Mill boaters camp area near the big rocks. This area has been producing some nice bass and bluegill. Don’t forget to also fish the Cherry & Dry Creek areas too.

THE CLOCK IS TICKING…There are only so many good fishing days left. Don’t let them slip away, go get on the water. When the rain comes, the fishin’ is much tougher.

What are you waiting for?? — Go get ‘em… TICK, TICK, TICK.

Thanks for reading and remember to keep it reel. Don=4REEL Fishin’
