Shame on local veterinarians

- — Karen Lynn, Fort Bragg

EDITOR: I lost my best friend on Dec. 11. She was only 15 years old and her name was Stormy. Yes, she was a beautiful black cat that I have had in my life since she was a baby. She has always been in good health and a joy in my life.

On the 10th she began having mini-strokes. It became increasingly worse during the night and by mid-morning she was having horrible seizures. I tried every veterinary in Fort Bragg and Mendocino. No one was in or oncall until Monday. I was told to take my cat to Santa Rosa, or there is a traveling caregiver that could come the next day at 5 p.m. My heart was breaking as I could not do anything for my best friend. Finally, I was told to call the Humane Society, and thank God, they were able to put my sweet cat to rest.

The reason I am writing this, is why isn’t there an emergency vet on call 24 hours, as there is for us folks. Do you think these fur friends of ours do not deserve attention when they are suffering after office hours or on a weekend? What about visitors in our town with their animals, what do they do for help??

Until we actually have an event happen to us, we or should I say I, did not know this. Now that I do know this, I think Fort Bragg should step up and see that no animal has to suffer until Monday. I will continue to try to make a difference, so no one has to suffer like my Stormy. With five vet offices in our area, shame on you.

A special thank you to Jill, Gina, Judy and Heather for helping Stormy cross over the Rainbow Bridge.
