MUSD eyes a return to campus in late March, early April

- Staff report

MENDOCINO >> The Mendocino Unified School District school board will make a decision and announcement at its March 11 meeting, regarding reopening. The district is tentatively scheduled for a staggered return on March 29, April 5 and April 19.

All TK through second grades are proposed to return on March 29, third through sixth grades are proposed to return on April 5 and seventh and eighth-grade students are proposed to return on April 19, as long as the county is in the state’s Red Tier, or lower.

The school district recently held a Parent Night regarding reopening, it can be seen on the school’s website.

Program Verification Forms were also recently mailed home for all TK through fifth-grade students. These forms are due back to the school by March 12. This form verifies the program (either distance learning or in-person) that guardians may enroll their students in. For those who have indicated that they will return to inperson via the parent survey, it also gives information on which session the student is scheduled to attend.

Program Verification Forms for the sixth grade will go out soon as well, and seventh and eighth-grade forms will go out at the end of the week.

For those parents planning to send their students to in-person learning, you will need to attend a parent orientation. There will be three different opportunities to attend: March 18 at 5 p.m., March 23 at 5 p.m. and March 25 at 8:30 p.m.

Lastly, In the next couple of weeks, all families will receive a “Reopening Handbook.” Much of this content will be reviewed at the Parent Orientation events, but families sending their students to in-person learning must sign and return an acknowledgment that guardians and students have read — and will follow — the reopening handbook guidelines.
