What’s up with Rotary

-

Spring is here and the Rotary Club of Fort Bragg is in full bloom!

KOZT hosted our Club President as she selected live on-air the winner of this year’s Dine Out Raffle. Our club would like to say thank you to all of the ticket purchasers who helped us quickly sell out of tickets! We are so grateful for your support. We would also like to give a special thanks to our Dine Out Raffle Sponsor, Vocality Community Credit Union. And most importantly, we would like to congratulate this year’s winner, Amy Wall.

While we are giving thanks, we’d like to give a special shout-out to Yumi and Fred Cooper who generously agreed to allow us to place a very special Rotary Read Aloud display in their store windows at 200 E Redwood Ave. If you haven’t had a chance to walk by and see it, you should! The single most important thing a parent can do to promote learning success is to read aloud every day to their young children. The Rotary Club of Fort Bragg’s Read Aloud Program has been going strong for more than 6 years. We hope that you are taking the time to read aloud to your children. 15 minutes, every child, every parent, every day.

Speaking of children, the Kindergarten and TK teachers at Redwood Elementary reached out with an idea that would help their students. And of course, we couldn’t help but say yes!

Although the students are back (to some degree) to in-person learning their playgrounds remain closed and the students are having their recess on the class patios. So, when the teachers got together and requested a very cool Walk-The-Wave Balance Beam, we jumped at the opportunity to help support the teachers and provide a great piece of equipment that is good for building balance in the youngest learners at Redwood Elementary and delivered the equipment on April 5.

On March 17, we were honored to give a donation in memory of Mendocino County Sheriff’s Deputy and beloved community member, Ricky Del Fiorentino, who was tragically taken from us 7 years ago. The donation will go towards supporting Police Week Festivities here in Fort Bragg, which is a three-day event that will be honoring the fallen men and women of law enforcement.

When we heard about Fort Bragg High School’s Anchor Academy’s Pay-ItForward Pantry, we knew we had to support it. Kids supporting kids? The concept really warmed our hearts and made us so proud of the youth involved in this great program. Our club happily donated to assist with the startup costs of this pantry. We look forward to watching the high school student develop this pantry.

Although this will be our last column in the Advocate-News for a while, we want you to know that we are here, ready to serve our community in whatever way we can!
