Cue Tips: Flagship Team at the Golden West Saloon

-

Rack them up! Golden West Saloon and their flagship Team # 2, Champions of many past pool seasons of Fort Bragg Pool League, were caught by surprise by the fast start of the Fall League. Don’t count them out, though, and in fact, they will most likely be a powerhouse team this season as well. What about Team # 1? Well, I’m glad you asked; players are now organizing Team # 1 and need people who wish to play for Golden West Saloon to fill out the roster. The details are not settled, and Golden West Saloon management isn’t convinced to join in the conversation yet, but if you wish to join the team or have an opinion about the team, make yourself heard. For an example of how hard teams are looking for new players, consider Taylor, he came into Welcome Inn to ask “Big Ron” how to join the pool team. Ron gave his usual brief response, but before Taylor could sit down, he was offered a position with a different team from Tip Top Lounge. Well, the reason is simple: for the first time in many years, every team in Fort Bragg Pool League needs players to fill out their roster. The League welcomes new players, and you needn’t be an expert at playing pool. There are players in the League who lose nearly every game and players who win almost every game. All skill levels are found in the League, but the best reason to join the Fort Bragg Pool League is the chance to compete with and be around people that enjoy playing pool. There is competition, but mostly, if you ask other Pool League players, it is a chance to be around their friends and neighbors. Watch any Tuesday night League game, and you will hear a near cacophony of laughter during every match.

You might join a team, meet new people, or watch the 8-ball games as they are played. League play starts at 7 pm and is over by 10 pm. Tournaments, however, usually take a couple of hours to complete, and anyone can enter. If visiting Fort Bragg, test out your game with local players! Good company, food, and music, a full bar with Shuffleboard, Dice, and/or Dart games in addition to billiards for entertainment. Angelina’s Grill and Bar also features Karaoke Friday evenings. If you like a venue with an outdoor Patio, try Malano’s bar, friendly patrons a full-service bar, and a patio to enjoy the outside air. Come and enjoy today in Fort Bragg.

Cue Tip: Ever use powder to make your cue stick glide smoothly through your fingers? Well, the powder also builds up as residue on the cue stick itself. If you also happen to hold your cue stick by the end close to your cue tip, the stickiness is compounded. When you hold your cue close to the end, your sweating palms and powder combine to gum up your shaft at the very place you were trying to improve slickness. Cue Whiz is a small micro cleaner that is in the form of a round circle patch. The idea is to make your cue shaft smooth, Cue Whiz does so without powder. If you also start setting your cue stick aside between turns at the table, you won’t be gumming up the end with your sweating palms. In fact, you won’t need powder ever again. If you don’t like using a Cue Whiz and wish to continue using powder, regularly use a cloth with alcohol on it to clean both your Ferrel of blue chalk and your cue shaft of powder.
