EDGEWATER GALLERY » Please join us for the opening of Happy L.A. Hyder’s show on First Friday which will continue through the month of October. Hyder is presenting color film and digital prints from her 52-year career of, as she often writes, “using my camera as my tool and viewing my negative as my canvas.”

“November 2009 is when I first used a very small digital camera. After 40 years working in film with the Hasselblad, a medium format camera that weighs around 7 lbs, it was a freeing experience,” she says.

Hyder’s featured work comes from that first experience through recent botanical prints on watercolor paper. “A gift of digital work is the ability to print an image that piqued my interest without setting up a darkroom’s trays and chemicals. It was exciting and I have more images than I can exhibit,” she adds. In celebration of these, she will have many single edition local, national and international prints available.

If your interest is piqued and you care to talk with Happy about her work, please come by on First Friday, October 1, 5-8, or on one of her gallery-sitting days, 115: Tuesdays, October 12 & 26; Sundays, October 3, 10, & 31.

Edgewater Gallery has been home to dozens of great artists since its founding in 2003. Now open seven days a week, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., they are located at 356 N. Main St., Fort Bragg. Admission is free. Masks are required for everyone. Visit their website at edgewater-gallery.com.

NORTHCOAST ARTISTS GALLERY » Northcoast Artists Gallery is pleased to present its October show from member artist Satoko Barash. She is drawn to functional work because of its intimacy with the user. She likes the idea that her work is enriching somebody’s everyday rituals like eating, drinking, serving, and entertaining. The technical challenges that come with creating utilitarian pieces enrich her practice as a potter.

The show will continue through November 1st. Please join Satoko Barash and the other member artists at the First Friday reception on October 1st. 3, 5 to 8 p.m.
