Slim pickins right now in the fishin’ world

-

Man, Is it just me or have folks lost some of their sense of humor? Maybe folks just need to lighten up and go fishing. Relax and exhale. Below is a classic, simple, clean and somewhat funny fishing story. There is no hidden message in it. It’s only purpose is to make you chuckle.

Alex had a terrible day fishing on the lake, sitting in the blazing sun all day without catching a single one. On his way home, he stopped at the fishmonger and ordered four rainbow trout. He told the fishmonger, ‘Pick four large ones out and throw them at me, will you?’

‘Why do you want me to throw them at you?’ Asked the salesman?’ So that I am able to tell my wife, in all honesty, that I caught them.’ said Alex.

‘Okay, but I suggest that you take the salmon.’ Why’s that? ‘Because your wife came in earlier today and said that if you came by, I should tell you to take salmon. That’s what she’d like for supper tonight’, replied the fishmonger with a grin.

MENDOCINO COAST » The word is the fishing out of Fort Bragg has really, really slowed the last couple weeks. With swells ranging from 6 — 10 feet most fishing vessels have been staying in the harbor. Maybe by the weekend the ocean will settle down some.

The tuna is about 100 miles off shore and the crab season is still a month away. So, like every fishing location in our area there is not all that much to get excited about.

Got Salmon Fishing? There are a ton of Salmon coming up the Sacramento River right now. So if you are one of those Salmon fisherman who just can’t get enough. Fill up your gas tank and head east. Trolling a flat fish or quick fish, have been the ticket. The mouth of the American River, the Woodson Bridge area and up river from discovery park are all reported to be the hot spots. The fishing has been wonderful! Many Salmon that have been caught have been running in the 10 to 30 pound range.

BLUE LAKES » The Upper Blue Lake has been producing some very nice bass. With the drop in temperature, the bass have become more active. The favorite prey for the bass on Blue Lakes are sunfish, bluegill, and baby bass. So if you are fishing with a lure that resembles them you will do very well. Cover a lot of water, make long casts at different angles around cover. Also several anglers have done quite well fishin’ the drop shot rig. The Narrows area always produces some nice bass drop shottin’. The trout fishin’ has not been very good. California Department of Fish and Wildlife has kinda forgotten about this waterway. The last time it was stocked with trout was the week of Aug. 18.Good luck! CLEAR LAKE » The go to lures right now is pitchin’ a jig , chatterbaits/spinnerbaits and shallow runnin’ cranckbaits.. Although some anglers are continuing to have success fishin’ old classics like dropshottin’. Most of the bass are being caught mid lake and towards Clearlake fishin’ rock piles. After we get a couple cold fronts through our area then, the bass fishin’ will get much better.

The Catfishing on Clear Lake has been pretty good. Many are being caught under and along docks. The Catfish have followed the bait fish up into the shallower water. Chicken livers, night crawlers, and drifting live crawdads with a bobber has been working well.

LAKE SONOMA » A little bird told me that the fishing has really picked up as of late. The full moon we had last week did slow the bite down some but now the bass fishermen are having much improved success. Try fishin’ the the Old Mill boaters camp area near the big rocks. This area has been producing some nice bass and bluegill. Don’t forget to also fish the Cherry & Dry Creek areas too.

Thank so much for reading and remember to keep it reel!
