Artists’ Collective in Elk

Artist’s Collective in Elk is featuring our newest member Alexandra “Alex” Magnan of Granite Mountain Arts to the Elk gallery. A California resident since childhood, her creations are often inspired by the ocean and its treasures. Alex uses locally sourced, natural, and repurposed materials to design windchimes, suncatchers, and mobiles. The Artists’ Collective in Elk is located at 6031 S. Highway 1 in Greater Downtown Elk. Open every day from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. For more information, call 707-877-1128 or visit www. artists-collective.net.

Artists’ Co-op of Mendocino

“Fog Works” by watercolorist Karen Bowers is the Featured Art for May at the Artists’ Co-op of Mendocino. Karen’s paintings are rendered interpretive and suggestive by her painting process. She begins her work on paper with water. “Water is my foundation.”

“Navarro Beach,” her show’s central artwork, represents the beginning of Karen’s use of fog as a key ingredient: “Clarity was gone. I let it go. On a foggy day, my work became open to possibilities unseen. In my studio, I soak the paper and use gouache to recreate this atmosphere: Soft sky water landing on my paper, no chance of paint drying. Pigment floating over the wet paper. Water and color. No direction is known. These days, clarity seems harsh. Fog Work is what I have turned to.”

Karen’s soft peaceful atmospheric paintings of sea and landscapes, botanicals too, are showcased from May 4 through June 6. Come and see them for yourself at the Artist’s Coop of Mendocino located at the corner of Kasten and Albion Streets in Mendocino, open daily from 11 am to 4 pm; phone is (707) 937-2217. If you cannot visit the gallery in person, then find our art online: www. artcoopmendocino.com. Partners Gallery

In May Partners Gallery is showing Here and Now with works by Pamela Hahn. The paintings and collages in this exhibit are inspired by a variety of interests and experiences. A piano concert performed for her by a good friend resulted in Debussy and Tea. Beach Nights incorporate objects found going to picnics with friends. There Is A Place portrays a peaceful destination inspired by the song Somewhere. Whatever the subject matter, her work is influenced by the natural world, and the fluidity of nature is always evident on the Mendocino Coast. “Nothing,” she says, “seems to stay still for long.” This is compatible with abstraction and her medium, encaustic. “One has to be prepared for the unexpected while working with hot wax.” There is a Second Saturday Meet the Artist Event on May 14, 5-7 pm. The gallery is located at 45062 Ukiah St in Mendocino. Hours are Thursday through Monday from 11 — 5 pm. www.partnersgallery.com 707 962-0233
