Meanwhile back on the ranch

Shopping in a hardware store in Costa Rica goes like this. You walk in the store past the security guard nodding hello. Easy enough. Next, you choose your items for me, that day, a leaf rake, a couple of hose clamps, a small bag of number five nails, and two bags of cement mix. Cement-mix is what we call ready-mix or quick-crete. You stand in line awaiting a spot at four different computer checkin places items in hand except for the cement mix.

The items are recorded on a computer, your name is taken and off you go to the pay station on the other side of the store minus items. There you might wait in line again for one of the two cashiers. Once at the window you state your name the price is given and you pay cash or credit card. With a couple of receipts in hand, you walk around the corner to a countertop where another employee greets you, examines your receipt, and hands you your purchases. In my case, I put the purchased items in the car then with the cement-mix receipt in hand drove out to the big open warehouse, found an employee to locate my items, and loaded them into the back of my vehicle.
