Trial of 16-year-old boy accused of 2015 slaying is scheduled for February
SANTA CRUZ — One year after the death of 8-year-old Madyson Middleton in Santa Cruz, her father has tried to keep an emphasis on her rather than the 16-year-old boy accused in her death. Mike Middleton, Madyson’s father, has stood outside many of the teen’s court hearings and held pictures of Madyson with other supporters.
“Justice will happen regardless of what I think. It’s not up to me,” Mike Middleton said in September 2015. “I think Madyson would want it this way, would want for me to not have hatred and anger. You just don’t want this to happen again.”
He described Maddy as a “sweet angel,” and some of his fondest memories of his daughter are of her running on the beach and playing in the ocean.
